Instructional Baseball:

The emphasis of the Instructional Division is to provide the players with basic baseball skills, rules of play, and teamwork. Pitching machines may be used to develop batting skills, improve play and speed up the game. PAA will also conduct player skills clinics.
SEASON STARTS – Early April
Teams will play a 10 to 12 game regular season. The season will end in early June. Participation trophies are awarded to all players.
Teams will be selected in mid-March. Players will be contacted around the third week of March.
GAMES: 1 or 2 games per week. Most games on Saturday.
FIELDS: Games are played on field 3 at Stoddards Fields on Edgewood Rd.
UNIFORMS: shirt, pants, and hat are issued. Players provide their own gloves, bats, and batting helmets. Rubber cleats are recommended.
PRACTICES: Typically one practice per week. Held at Quarry Hill Elementary School on Quarry Rd.
Parents,
PAA puts together Summer Tournament teams in order to offer kids the opportunity to play additional baseball. These teams play against other leagues in organized tournaments in the area (30-60 min away). This will be competitive play, and space is limited, so a formal tryout is required. Only those who were registered with PAA for Spring 2012 (and were 7 on 4/30/12) are eligible to tryout.
Commitment:
We intend to play in at least two tournaments, and hopefully a third. These could go out until the end of July. Your child needs to be able to attend two practices a week as well as play in the games for these tournaments. Dates for these are not yet confirmed, however the first tournament we hope to play in is June 15-17. Failure to attend practices may mean less field time.
The cost to cover new uniforms, 3 tournament entry fees, etc., is estimated to be approx $150-$200 per player.
Tryouts:
Tryouts are required in order to ensure we field competitive teams. Tryouts cannot be 100% perfect, but they are organized to be fair. The team manager, plus 2 independent judges will observe the players through a set of drills to assess their fielding, hitting, and running skills. They are not always looking for the perfect throw or catch or at-bat, but rather promising technique, good attitude, and hustle.
Two tryouts will be held. The first is Saturday, 5/12 at 6pm on Stoddard 3 (registration starts at 5:30 at the snack stand). No new registrations after 6pm. A make-up tryout will be held on Monday, 5/14 at 6pm on Quarry Hill 2 (registration starts at the field at 5:30). You only need to attend one tryout. We cannot offer additional tryouts as it will interfere with our ability to purchase uniforms and practice before the first game.
Once registered, please send your child (with their registration number) to the field to warm-up. It is best to stay away from the field to reduce pressure on the kids and give them space to perform their best – it should feel like a practice to them. No parents will be permitted on the field during the tryout.
Not all players can make the team, but that does not mean they are not good players. Please encourage your child to try his hardest. Even if he doesn’t make the team this time, remind him that he is still a good player and there will be more opportunities to play in the future. Fall Ball will be right around the corner.
Tryout results will be posted to the www.paaball.com web site 10-15 days after the 2nd tryout.
Thank you for your interest and participation.
